My Ugly Christmas Sweater

I'm sure most of you have heard of the ugly sweater parties that have become popular in recent years during the holiday season. If you haven't, it typically involves people purchasing sweaters with holiday designs (usually Christmas themed) that they deem ugly, goofy, and/or tacky and wearing them to parties and other events. I LOVE cheesy events like this and this year is the first that I've been able to participated in it. I actually have three events involving ugly sweaters. Ha!

Since I didn't want to spend money on a sweater I would only wear several times a year, I decided to just make add-ons to attach to a cute cardigan I already own. The finish product is show above!

Holiday Crafting At School

Finally, an official craft post! Yesterday, our school had a Holiday Open House where the students made items to sell. It functions as both a fundraiser for the school and allows the parents the chance to check out our campus since many live far away (most students use the school bus to get here). My class made four items to maintain some variety since we weren't sure what would sell.

'Tis The Season To Craft

It's December and that means some crafting is in order! I've been pretty bad with crafting over the past few months but as classes wind down (next week is finals week! Eek!), hopefully I'll be able to work on some things this month. In two weeks I'll also be on winter vacation. Did I mention how much I love working for a school?

Hope all is well!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! For those of you celebrating, I hope you have a wonderful holiday! As tomorrow is a national holiday, my workplace had a lunch celebration today filled with tons of delicious food. The students couldn't have been better and my lovely co-worker, Alisa, gave me this super cute turkey brooch today that she had crocheted last night. She is definitely one of the people that I am truly grateful to have in my life. I will keep this fairly brief as I just wanted to check in and let you know I'm still alive. :)

Hope all is well!

Crafting Goodies

It's almost Halloween and I haven't started on my costume for work yet. Yikes! Things have been hectic, hence the lack of posts this month. I'm also leaving for a mini getaway with some friends to Fremont, CA tomorrow morning. So instead of a crafting post, I thought I'd share some new crafting goodies I have.

Apples For Autumn

Here is a cute little brooch my lovely friend/coworker made me a couple of weeks back at the start of the school year. It reminds me of the fall season, which unfortunately hasn't seem to have begun since we're still having weather in the 80's and 90's. Hopefully it'll get cooler by Halloween. Time to start thinking up costumes for this year!

Disneyland Confetti Surprise Card

For a friend's birthday, a couple of us decided to surprise her with a trip to Disneyland. I (naturally!) volunteered to make the card and remembered seeing a neat card from Papyrus (which unfortunately doesn't seem to be on their website) where you had to shake it to reveal the message. Since we didn't have the tickets on hand, I thought that would be a fun way to reveal her birthday surprise!

More Sticker Sacks!!

I know I said I would try to cut back on buying craft supplies this year but I really couldn't live without these sticker sacks in my life! I bought them from my favorite online Japanese stationery shop, Kawaii Ya

Using Up Old Nail Polish

I really like to save bottles of old nail polish for small projects. I usually use them as paints (mostly when decorating cards) since I don't paint often enough to buy products for that specific purpose. However, I have also tried using them to spice up some of my fashion jewelry as both a coating to prevent tarnish (using clear nail polish) and to jazz up a piece (with color polish).

The Finished Sampler!

So I finally finished my sampler!! Sorry for the less than great photo but I just wanted to share it since I'm so happy to be done!

DIY Embroidery Floss Bobbins

Since I've started cross stitching, I've accumulated a lot of embroidery floss! After searching the web, I decided to make some embroidery floss bobbins to keep it tangle-free. Of course, you can buy pre-made holders online or in craft stores but I wanted mine to be a little more whimsical and I already had the materials on hand.

Petit Drawings

I pulled out an old sketchbook the other day and decided that I wanted to draw something because I missed coloring! I've been drawing nonstop for the pass two days and here are some of my results.

Sampler Progress Update

An update on my sampler! I thought it would be fun to center the theme of the sampler around traveling to places that I've visited/lived in. I didn't follow an exact pattern for any of the scenes and mostly made them up as I went along but I did get some inspiration from cross stitch projects and stock images I found on Google. First on the list is San Francisco/Bay Area.

My First Sampler

After finishing the cross stitch bookmarks mentioned in previous blog posts (here and here), I wanted to try something a little more difficult. I decided to make my first sampler! I'm currently copying the pattern shown above but with little changes here and there to add some modern elements.

Other Things I've Been Up To This Summer...

I made up a little thank you gift set to thank Joanne for all the cross stitch goodies she gave me. I got her a little floral tote bag with a cute bear notepad from Harrods that I knew she would love and a tiny keepsake box shaped like a house. It was just a small gesture to show her how grateful I am for all the craftiness she's shared with me!

I also wrapped up a good bye gift for a friend that was leaving the area for a work/internship opportunity. Very bittersweet since I'm so happy for her accomplishments but sad that I won't be seeing her very often for the next year or so.

I finally printed out photos from 2006 to present (about 500 in total!!!) which has been in my to-do list since 2012! I organized all of them and put them into albums by chronological order. It took a couple of weeks because I wanted to label the date, location and people in the photo on the back of each photo. Call me crazy, but I did it!

I finished reading this lovely book, "The Princess of Tennis" by Jamie Lynn Lano. It's about her experiences working at a famous manga studio (known for creating the Prince of Tennis series). She's one of my favorite bloggers and the writing of the book is similar to what you would find on her blog and is very conversational. I don't watch anime nor do I read manga but I enjoyed this book a lot. It was a very easy read and almost felt like I was reading a diary or invading someone's thought bubble. I had pre-ordered it when she first announced it on her blog and it came with a cute bookmark and pin shown above. I recommend it to people interested in how a manga studio is run, fans of the Prince of Tennis series or those just interested in learning about someone's experiences in a creative/artistic field.

I'm also looking through some books that Joanne lent me to get some ideas for my next cross stitching project. I'm working on one as we speak!

I don't want this summer to end! I'm looking forward to tackling on some new projects before it's over :)

Pill Plush and Medicine Bottle Cover

I made this pill plush for a belated birthday gift. It can easily double as a decorative pillow and is very huggable :)

Another Cross Stitch Bookmark!

The picture above is of one of my favorite shirts for lounging around at home. I bought it at Urban Outfitters a couple of years back on sale and love it for the irony. (People don't usually associated printed cross stitch with thugs ;) )

Hello Summer!

Craft Inspiration

I received this a while ago and really want to recreate something similar since it looks so fun!

Colored markers always make me want to draw something!

Here is my neglected pet rock. I must make him a home soon!

Lots of stamps and ink pads I received from my older sister.

I've had these wooden kokeshi blanks for a couple of years now and really want to use them in a project. Hmm, what to do?

Look at these adorable wrapping twist ties I got awhile back at Daiso. Can't wait to package up some cute things using these!

Happy Birthday, Cash!

One of my co-workers had a birthday party for her dog last weekend. I wasn't able to attend but I thought I'd wrap up some goodies to give to her little guy. He gets cool points for being named Cash after Johnny Cash. :)

Just Some More Doodles

[1920s Embroidery] - Recently I've taken a liking to the embroidery details in Flapper clothing and wanted to doodle something similar! I've just discovered a great website called Fashion-Era which is a really useful resource for viewing fashion trends from the 1800s until now.

Whew! After several hours of reorganizing my blog this morning, I've finally finished and am much happier with how it looks. Now time to catch up with some crafting news :) A couple of weeks ago, I entered blah To TADA!'s 5th anniversary giveaway and received a message from its lovely owner Claire that I won!! :)

Happy (Early) Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day folks! Unfortunately for me, this year I didn't get a chance to send out Valentines since I've been so busy with school and work :( What you see in the picture above is a couple of valentines I was able to whip up for some friends I will see in person tomorrow.
